I AM writing to inform readers of the perils of recycling their tin cans at Foss Islands Depot.
If you leave bags of tin cans on the ground at Foss Islands Depot, they will promptly be lobbed into a landfill skip.
I went recently and the solitary tin-can skip was overflowing.
A member of staff confirmed that any bags of tin cans left anywhere other than in the skip would be destined for landfill.
What sort of dedicated recycling service is that to offer the people of York? Duping them into believing that they are helping the environment?
So much for the council's recent questionnaire (prompted purely by the Euro Directive ultimatum) and supposed commitment and dedication to "reducing the amount of York's household waste that goes into the landfill site".
I fortunately have some limited storage space and am able to return home with my cans and keep them until such time as the council has a genuine can recycling facility again.
It is a half-baked policy on recycling and one which merely pays mocking lip service to the Euro Directive. Even if it were not for the Euro Directive twisting the council's arm, increases in recycling and reductions in waste is something this planet desperately needs.
