STAFF at York Minster today admitted they are finding it "difficult" to remove the graffiti daubed on the building last month.
Brigadier Peter Lyddon, Chapter Steward at the Minster, said he and his colleagues were running out of options.
He said: "The fact that the culprit used cellulose paint and that the damage was not found for five hours or so means that the paint was able to work itself into the structure.
"Consequently, it is proving rather difficult to get rid of. Our efforts to remove it will continue, but obviously the Minster is not your average building and the maximum amount of care is required."
- York police today arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the Minster vandalism attack.
The man was arrested just after 8.30am today and was in custody waiting to be interviewed at the time of going to press.
