A HOST of hotels, museums and events in the York area are battling it out in the White Rose Awards for tourism, which recognise excellence in the industry across the region.
The prestigious awards ceremony, organised by the Yorkshire Tourist Board, takes place in Leeds this week and finalists in the 14 categories are hoping for success.
Among the finalists are The Dean Court Hotel and the Grange Hotel, both in York, which are up for the Small Hotel of the Year award.
Six businesses are battling it out for the Self-Catering Holiday of the Year award.
These include Baille Hill House in York, Gales House Farm at Gillamoor, Scott House at Pateley Bridge, Beech Farm Cottages at Wrelton, Pickering and Easthill House and Gardens in Thornton-le-Dale.
The Guest Accommodation of the Year award has five finalists including Knottside Farm, Pateley Bridge,and Oldstead Grange, Coxwold.
Warren Forest Park at Ripley, near Harrogate, is up against three other finalists in the Caravan Holiday of the Year award.
The National Railway Museum in York and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Pickering are competing against each other and three other venues for the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year award.
The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, York is a finalist in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year award and the Rudding Park Hotel at Follifoot, near Harrogate, is competing for the Conference Venue of the Year.
The White Swan at Pickering and the Yorkshire Air Museum are competing for the Marketing Campaign of the Year award.
The National Railway Museum is a finalist in the Unusual Conference Venue of the Year award and the York Festival of Food and Drink and the York Millennium Mystery Plays are competing for the Tourism Event of the Year award.
David Andrews, chief executive of Yorkshire Tourist Board said the standard was particularly high.
He said: "The White Rose Awards encourages the Yorkshire tourism industry to drive up the quality of the tourism product to ensure that the region can effectively compete in this global marketplace in the future."
The awards will be presented by Yorkshire-born broadcaster and personality John Craven at a ceremony at The Royal Armouries, in Leeds, on Thursday.
