YORK MP Hugh Bayley travelled to the European Parliament in Strasbourg today to seek support for "co-ordinated action" to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The city MP said the emissions lead to global warming - and floods like
those which ravaged York last autumn.
Under the Kyoto agreement, the EU must cut world greenhouse gas emissions by eight per cent between1990 levels and 2010.
Mr Bayley said they are already down by four per cent since 1990 - but some countries are doing better than others.
The MP said he was attending the European Parliament today to lobby for all the member states to pull their weight.
The UK has cut its emissions by 14 per cent and plans a further 12.5 per
cent reduction by 2010.
