HARROGATE got their National Division two season off to a flying start with a 38-20 victory at Newbury.
They ran in five tries as they won at Newbury for the first time in five attempts.
Ralph Zoing's side were up for the action from the first whistle and were 20-0 in front by then with full-back Ed Smithies, who scored 17 tries last term, crossing for two tries.
Centre Graeme Sergeant and No 8 Richard Wade weighed in with other first half touchdowns while Lee Cholewa kicked three conversions.
Newbury hit back with three tries, one of them converted, but any hope of a change in the lead vanished as Wade crossed for his second try after a break by John Dudley.
Right winger Mark Farrar added another after Smithies was set free on the break by Matt Duncombe's pass.
