I wholeheartedly agree with Mrs Dawson in her support of Ken Clarke (August 23). It may surprise you to learn that I am not a Tory voter, however, I feel it is very important to have an effective and fair opposition.
I feel Mr Clarke has more experience in government and therefore is likely to be good in opposition. On a personal note, I agree with his policy on Europe.
The biggest point against Mr Duncan Smith is his right-wing tendencies and the following this encourages.
This country is in the middle of a crisis, our major cities are at war with themselves. This is a direct result of right-wing policies whipping up hate.
Mr Duncan Smith as leader of any major party will only act as a magnet for this hate. Is this really what we want?
I think it would be a disaster for the Conservative party and more importantly, this country, if Mr Clarke does not become leader.
