FOUR vintage railway posters, advertising the delights of York, are expected to fetch a total of £2,800 when they go under the hammer in London.
The posters were all designed by artist Fred Taylor, and the most valuable of the four was produced for the London & North Eastern Railway in 1935.
Showing the city's dignitaries marching out of York Minster, it measures 50in by 40in, and is tipped to fetch up to £800 when it goes for auction at Christie's on September 12.
The other posters feature an interior view of the Minster, Monk Bar and the Treasurer's House.
Nicolette White, poster specialist at Christies, said: "They are really seen as works of art in their own right, as well as being advertising.
"The railway companies employed the finest artists of the time to do the posters for them. We are left now with some really good graphic images."
She said the posters tended to be of the places where British people spent their breaks before the advent of the package holiday.
