DIAMOND couple Sydney and Edith Turpin, pictured, were today celebrating 60 sweet years together. Sydney was 17 and Edith was 15 when the pair met, at work, in the old Cravens sweet factory, in Coppergate, York. He was one of 11 brothers from Darnborough Street, and she grew up in Seventh Avenue, Heworth. They were given a house in Skelton after the birth of their daughter, Jacqueline, and have lived in the village for the last 47 years, moving to a bungalow several years ago. They now have three grandchildren, and started their weekend of anniversary celebrations yesterday, with relatives who travelled to York, to join them.
