YORK Wasps vice-chairman Russell Greenfield reckons merging with London Broncos would be the quickest and best way to get into Super League dreamland, writes Peter Martini.
When asked why attempt to buy the Broncos rather than pump that money into the current York Wasps set-up, he said: "The Broncos have got a straight deal in the Super League. They are a Super League club with all the obvious trimmings.
"We could spend a fortune like a lot of Northern Ford Premiership clubs have done but finish, say, third, or even win the league and not go up.
"Hunslet won the NFP a few years ago but did not get into Super League and nearly went bankrupt in the process. The same happened to Dewsbury last year while Leigh finished top this year but didn't go up."
He also stated the new proposals would not effect the club's major new sponsorship deal, which is to be announced on September 18 along with the name of the new coach.
"I have spoken about it to the sponsors, who are a massive name, and they are ecstatic. They are 1,000 per cent for it."
