Burythorpe need to win one more game to retain the Horwath Pulleyn Heselton York Vale division one championship after beating their closest rivals York at Clifton Park.

York were off to a poor start losing their first two wickets for seven. They were pulled round by a third wicket partnership of 54 by Australians Sean Hunter and Andrew Dee. Mark Fairweather (6 for 62) and Andrew Milner (2 for 47) kept it tight, the hosts dismissed for 112.

Andrew and Paul Milner put on 60 before the latter was bowled by Simon Hall.

At the other end Andy hit 55 to accelerate Burythorpe to a seven-wicket win.

A century opening partnership between John Sharples and Jon Goodway laid the foundation for Ovington to reach 236 for 3 against Stamford Bridge. Sharples carried his bat for 111.

David Whittle was the key bowler, his 5 for 40 proving a match-winning performance for Ovington.

The shock result of the day saw struggling Hemingbrough outplay Burn.

Mark Allitt (40) and Graham Williamson (26) were the top scorers for Hemingbrough, whose 129 was stilted by Steven Goldsbrough (4 for 46) and Ashley Abbott (4 for 52).

Burn never recovered from the loss of a wicket in each of the first three overs. Paul Collins took 6 for 20 and K Jackson 4 for 37 as Burn crashed to 62 all out.

Stockton & Hopgrove sampled a double following up a win over Bishopthorpe with victory over Norwich Union.

After 20 overs they had a meagre 31 for 4 on the board against Simon Morgan's 4 for 16.

Richard Kerrison upped the scoring rate with a quick 44 as they piled on 102 runs in the next 20 overs leaving NU 134 to win. But it proved too big an ask as NU were all out for 109.

Drax put the champagne on ice when beaten by York Post office but still retain a healthy lead at the top of division two.

Batting first Drax were uneasy against the three-man Post Office attack of Glynn Botterill, Mike Hamshere and James Ledgeway. They just managed to get into three figures to post what proved to be a modest target.

The Postmen made an horrendous reply. Kelvin Brook whipped three of the top four for just three runs.

Andy Sturdy (38) and skipper Ray Baggaley (42not out) rescued the innings with a partnership of 77 to set up a five-wicket win that moves Post Office into second place.

Wheldrake's Andy Fairburn returned a splendid 8 for 60 to have Westow wobbling at 132. Mark Earle hit five fours and four sixes in his 56.

Wheldrake never recovered from an early loss, bowlers Colin Smallwood and Mark Earle keeping it tight as the innings fell away to 69.

The top game in division three saw Copmanthorpe take an important step towards promotion when beating Escrick Park by seven wickets.

Park were restricted to 71 for 2 in the first 30 overs by Chris Hall and the father and son Hughes combination.

James Reynolds (54no) and Richard Sherwood (36no) hit out in the last ten overs doubling the score to 142 for 2. The Copmanthorpe innings was dominated by Peter Northfield, with an immaculate 91.

Relegated Burn with only one win all season made it two in two weeks when beating second-placed Stillingfleet.

The 'Fleet lost their top order cheaply to Bob Robinson who took 4 for 14 from 12 good overs.

Chris Woodfine, Richard Hall and Dave Cockerill all reached the 20-mark, but fell to the wiles of Ron England and John Wilson to 107 all out.

It was Wilson who was Burn's match-winner, reaching 48 before becoming one of Dave Rowsby's four wickets for 14 runs, leaving the tail to scramble for the winning runs which came with three balls to go.
