BUBBLING York Acorn travel to Dewsbury Moor on Saturday hoping to build on their excellent 58-16 win over Cottingham Tigers on the opening day of the season.

With Darren Callaghan, Rob Lee and Gareth Lloyd, who all have Northern Ford Premiership experience, in the fold, Acorn could turn out to be the surprise package in the division.

With no reported injuries for tomorrow's duel they are eager to get two more points in the bag.

Spokesman Paul Lumby said: "Confidence is high but the players are keeping their feet on the ground.

"There was plenty to feel good about last week but we know we must cut out the defensive lapses.

"Tougher games lie ahead but winning becomes a habit and one that we aim to get used to."

Last week the creativity of half-backs Danny Liddell and Callaghan along with the strong running of forwards Lee McTigue and Paul Dodsworth caught the eye as did the all-round play of centre Lee and full-back Michael Embleton.

"If we can reproduce our attacking flair and show more stinginess in defence, we should be looking at win number two," added Lumby.

Heworth will also be looking for a second division two victory as they entertain NCL newcomers Hunslet Warriors.

The visitors, promoted from the Yorkshire League last season, have enjoyed a fine rise since being formed four years ago following the amalgamation of three clubs.

They are sure to provide a tough test after starting NCL life with a 48-14 hammering of Castleford Panthers. BARLA international winger Bryn Powell got a hat-trick and is certain to be a threat, as will former Hunslet Hawks full-back Dean Creasser.

However, Heworth also opened with a win and spokesman Ken Sykes said: "If anything we should have a stronger squad week and we've got to be optimistic."

Heworth are hoping centre Nikki Wilson will have recovered from an ankle knock, while Dan Briggs should be available after county duty. Wayne Foster also returns.
