The Bank Holiday weekend produced what has become a rarity this season, two 60- peg matches on the Ouse.
What was equally pleasing were the results with plenty of roach and perch in evidence among the backing weights.
The 60-peg Leeds Open tackled the uncharted territory upstream of Aldwark Bridge where the winners found some huge bream lurking.
Ray Stock (East End Park) led from a peg opposite the boat hut. Fishing a caster feeder he netted five slabs for a winning 29lb 13oz. A shoal of monster bream opposite the Bay Horse pub decided the rest of the frame with Gerry Eastwood (Castleford) winning a peg-to-peg battle with John Matthers (Barnbow). Eastwood bagged three fish for his 19lb 15oz, while John had a brace, including a near double-figure fish, for his 17lb10oz.
The best of the rest were: Dave Miles (Marsh Tackle) 6-14-0, Norman Thewliss (Hirst Tackle) 6-12-0, Martin Thorpe (Glen) 6-4-0.
A little further upstream at Boroughbridge 60 anglers tackled the stretch from the weir down to the cricket field in the fourth round of the North Central League.
Kevin Bell (Wetherby) led with a surprise barbel taken on pole and worm, plus some perch for 11lb 6oz. His win would have been more convincing but for four lost barbel.
Gary Lumsden (Boroughbridge) took second spot with five chub on maggot feeder from the cricket field stretch for his 9lb4oz. Pete Riley (Boroughbridge) had a lovely roach net of 7lb 13oz for third.
Others: Pat Adams (Thirsk) 6-15-0; Stuart Tate (Thirsk) 6-5-0; Ken Fletcher (Wetherby) 5-7-0.
Nomads had a cracking match on their first visit to the Woodlands complex at Carlton Minniot.
Fishing on Swallow and Mallard lakes the 27 rods took over 700lb of fish to the scales.
Facilities were superb with on-site tackle shop owner and bailiff Alan Gregory taking the time to weigh every competitor in, present prizes and even donate some goodies to the winners himself. Commercial fishery owners take note.
In-form Grant Walker took top prize from peg 6 on Mallard with 70lb 15oz of carp to nearly 8lbs. Fishing floating bread tight to the islands he took most of his fish late in the day.
Two pegs away on Mallard 4 was Terry Carlton who used the same tactics for his all-carp net of 60lbs, which included fish to double figures. Steve Hodson had top weight on Swallow with 50lb5oz. Other top weights included Dave Sherwood with 43lb5oz and Paul Garnett with 38lb12oz.
Mick Addinall bounced back from his disappointment at Woodlands. He was drawn on Mallard 5 to ease his aching neck with victory on Monday at Carpvale.
Drawn in corner peg nine he netted a couple of carp on the method before a switch to pole fished tight into the corner with meat and worm saw him net a flurry of carp for his winning 56lb.
Close behind was Barry Klar, who is rapidly adapting to the carp fishing circuit. Drawn on peg 16 he used method feeder with corn for his carp net of 47lb10oz.
Barbara Jeffries (Armley Angling) topped the 43-peg Tadcaster Open on the Wharfe at Smaws Ings with 7lb15oz. Drawn on peg 45 she bagged a decisive bream on caster feeder before switching to pole and worm for several perch.
Geoff Wilmore (Armley Angling) took second from peg 27, where he netted three small chub on caster feeder for 5lb10oz. The rest struggled for perch with Bob Renshaw (Darlington) taking the best net of stripeys weighing in at 5lb10oz.
In-form John Chapman (Keenets NW) bagged another four Kamasan points to top the list at the Oaks.
His 52lb bag of small carp taken on pole and meat from peg 61 edged out Damien Bracken (Trevs of Wilmslow), who had 49lb1oz on worm from peg 20. John Allerton 44-8-0, Ian Bowman 42-4-0 and Des Southern 41-10-0 completed the all star cast.
