DELIGHTED York City boss Terry Dolan praised the resilience of his troops after a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient lifted the Minstermen to fourth in Division Three.
It is three polished performances on the bounce for City now and, coming hot on the heels of a marathon Worthington Cup tie against Crewe in midweek, Dolan insisted he had no complaints with Saturday's performance.
"I thought we deserved the victory," he said.
"Every game is different and when I saw the weather as it was at 2.45pm I knew that we weren't going to get a similar type of game as to that against Crewe.
"On Tuesday it was pouring down and the ball was zipping around.
"(Against Orient) it was red hot, there was not much air about and the pitch was a bit sticky so it wasn't going to be the same sort of game.
"I said to the players we need to be resilient and we ended up getting a result and after having had 90 minutes then extra-time and penalties on Tuesday, to follow that up with three points is very pleasing.
"You have got to remember we have just beaten a team who lost in the play-off final last season.
"So let's also take some credit from that. It was nip and tuck in the first-half, we had to be patient and we were."
Dolan admitted City had chances to kill the game off when they went 2-0 up on the hour mark, but was equally pleased with his side's defensive resolve.
"Unfortunately we didn't get the third goal when I thought we were going to which would have finished the game.
"At 2-0 you are always a bit vulnerable and they got the goal back and we had to stick at it but we did and I am delighted for everybody."
- York City's intermediates failed to make home advantage pay when they lost 2-1 to Scunthorpe United in the Football League Youth Alliance North East Conference.
The two sides were locked 0-0 at half-time but a sluggish start to the second period saw the young Minstermen go 2-0 down.
Kieran Darlow pulled a goal back for the City youngsters but despite being deserving of a point the teenagers were unable to grab a leveller.
