A DISASTROUS triple bogey eight quickly killed off any hopes Malton and Norton Golf Club's Simon Dyson had of winning the Scottish PGA title at Gleneagles.
Dyson, in his first year on the European tour, was very much in contention when he went to the first tee for yesterday's final round.
After rounds of 69 70 and 69 he was just four strokes behind leader Alex Cejka but it all went sadly wrong at the second hole where Dyson carded an eight.
While Cejka and the rest of the leading pack continued to pick up strokes, Dyson fell further behind with bogies at the fifth a sixth holes, reaching the turn in 41.
Dyson showed his fighting qualities over the back nine with birdies on the 11th, 14th, 16th and 17th, only to drop another stroke at the 533-yard last to finish two over par for joint 22nd place on 208 (6 under) .
Victory went to 24-year-old Weybridge player Paul Casey, who had started the day three shots ahead of Dyson. and finished at 14 under par to beat Cejka by one stroke.
