Wigginton Grasshoppers got off to the best start of all the Leeper Hare York and District League premier division teams as they came from behind to hammer top tier new-boys Riccall 6-2.
Hosts Riccall took an early lead through Mark Westerland and Stuart Ross finished off a three-man move to make it 2-0.
Wigginton, who are still looking for a manager, upped their game and took control as Dave Cruders, Chris Johnson (2), Tom Mathews, Dave Turnbull and John Moore turned the match on its head.
New Earswick did similarly well, beating Rufforth 4-1, also after coming from behind.
Jimmy Collins gave the visitors the lead following a goalkeeping error, but New Earswick's commitment shone through as they hit back via Craig Whittington (2), Jamie Vine and Dave Iddon.
Newly promoted Nestl Rowntree stretched Dringhouses but cruelly lost to the only goal of the game, which was scored in injury time by former Grasshoppers player Mark Scoreby.
Both sides had earlier had chances, with Rowntrees 'keeper Jon Reynolds particularly impressive.
Champions Old Malton got off to a winning start, 2-1 at Boroughbridge. The hosts went ahead through Barry Perry but Neil Wilford reversed the scoreline in Malton's favour with two goals, the second finishing off a three-man move.
A fine all-round display saw hosts Pocklington beat hard-working Huntington 3-0.
Mick Murr crossed for Baz Garget to net the opener in the second half with a fine header, and substitute Graham Whitehead, son of former York City defender Alan, made it 2-0.
Huntington created a few chances but failed to score, while Charlie Bond fired in number three for Pock.
