SKIPPER Chris Brass is adamant York's City recent red revival is the real deal.

Buoyed by two sparkling performances against Torquay and then Crewe, the City captain and midfield cog senses a new era is slowly gathering momentum.

"It was a really good performance against Crewe and although it didn't go for us after the penalties there were so many positives that came out of the game," Brass told the Evening Press

"You always worry it could be a case of 'after the Lord Mayor's show', as you often follow a good performance like against Torquay with a bad one.

"That makes the home fans think it's maybe just a bolt out of the blue. I think we showed against better opposition on Tuesday that it isn't just a bolt out of the blue.

"We are still improving as a team and that is the most promising thing.

"Everything is boding well and everyone is positive. There is a nice atmosphere among the lads and we seem to have confidence in abundance at the moment."

Brass believes the new attitude in the squad was epitomised by the way the City player's coolly dispatched their penalties in the shoot-out with Crewe.

"Even Coop's (Richard Cooper's) penalty, although he missed, was still struck confidently and he showed a lot of character to take it.

"He is a young lad and he put his neck on the block. He was disappointed at the time but I learnt more about his character from him taking it than anything else.

"The young lads, like John Fielding, Aidan O'Kane and Scott Emmerson, have stepped in and haven't looked out of place.

"It can be quite hard for a number of youngsters to come in at the same time and gel but they have, are willing to learn and listen and they can only improve. That will also enable the team to improve."

Brass admits it will take more than two good displays to convince some supporters that City are on the up but he is confident the Minstermen will prove their worth.

"After what has happened in recent times you can understand when there is a bit of pessimism around," he said.

"But it was good to see on Tuesday that they got behind us and we know that if we do perform they will back us."
