IF you think you're a good runner and map-reader, now is your chance to prove it.

Eborienteers are holding an orienteering event around the snickleways of York and along the river bank finishing at Rawcliffe Bar Country Park on Sunday, September 2.

Great Britain international Jenny Whitehead, from York, and Oli Johnson of Bristol Orienteering Club, both fresh from the World Championships in Finland, will be competing.

Course planner Steve Whitehead. "The course is simpler than those in forests and moorlands where we normally run but will still be difficult enough to produce map-reading and route choice errors."

If you're not quite up to a 7km course, there is a beginners event at Rawcliffe Bar Country Park from 10am until 12.30pm where help and instruction will be available. All ages are welcome and you can go round the course alone or as a group, running or strolling. Take £1 to enter and a picnic.

Advance entries are only neededfor the long course. Contact Steve Whitehead on 01904 634138.
