YORKSHIRE Academy could do Harrogate and Scarborough a favour if they can put the brakes on Sheffield Collegiate's bid to retain their Yorkshire ECB County Premier League title at Headingley tomorrow, writes Peter Vine.
The county youngsters take on the champions while second placed Scarborough, whose recent storming run has left them just five points behind the leaders with a game in hand, are at Appleby-Frodingham.
Mark Cowell's Scarborough side are chasing their first title since 1984 but they'll have to do it without Cowell in Scunthorpe tomorrow as he in unavailable.
He hands over the reins to Darren Harland at Appleby-Frodingham but will return on Monday to lead the side at Cleethorpes where Matthew Sinclair, the New Zealand Test star ,has not picked up where he left off since returning from international duty after setting the fastest thousand runs recorded in the Yorkshire League.
The key game of the Bank Holiday weekend set of double fixtures could well be at Abbeydale Park on Monday when Harrogate are the visitors.
Harrogate take on a Doncaster side who were bowled out for only 64 at Cleethorpes last weekend, but expect a much tougher test against Collegiate on Monday for what might turn out to be the championship decider.
Tucked away in the lower half of the table, York have been making steady progress to improve their position since they were fourth from the bottom of the table at the end of June.
After their 20-run win over Appleby-Frodingham last Saturday at Clifton Park lifted much improved York to eighth place.
They are poised to move up again if they gain the upper hand at Barnsley tomorrow and Appleby-Frodingham go down to Collegiate at Scunthorpe.
York should further their chances to improve their position when they entertain struggling Hull at Clifton Park on Bank Holiday Monday.
Andy Kay takes over from Stephen Piercy in York's line up at Shaw Lane tomorrow.
Clifton Park stages the Hunter's Estate Agent York and District Senior League final between Dunnington and Pickering (2pm).
