I AGREE with everything David Quarrie wrote about the foot and mouth crisis (Letters, August 21) except for one thing.
He states that dogs are allowed to roam free from farm to farm. Most public footpaths that have been reopened either do not allow dogs, or dogs must be kept on leads.
There are few footpaths where dogs can roam loose at the moment. I agree with this if the paths pass close to farmland. I don't see why dogs should not be allowed on paths which do not go near farmland, if properly controlled.
