SEND a cow to Uganda and make a difference to a whole community.
The Send a Cow is project is a national charity which started in 1988 when group of Christian farmers sent 32 cows to Uganda after a Ugandan Bishop appealed for help from British farmers when he heard about milk surpluses in the UK.
Between 1988 and 1996 over 300 cows have been flown from the UK to give much needed milk supplies to the Ugandan population.
The cow's milk feeds the family and surplus is sold to neighbours, providing an added source of income so they can educate their children.
As well as this all families who participate in the scheme undertake to pass on their first female calf to another family in order to keep the project going
Now a local co-ordinator for the charity, David Hughes, would like to talk to schools, clubs and groups in Ryedale about how they can help support this project. For more information on the charity contact Mr Hughes on (01944) 758757.
