YORK'S National Railway Museum has appeared in a Sunday Times top ten of museums around the world.
The museum, which became the European Museum of the Year earlier this year, was selected by a panel of judges appointed by the newspaper to choose their ten top museums around the world.
The guide advises visitors to take the best part of a day to look round and recommends the children's facilities and the Brief Encounter caf.
The only other British attraction in the top ten is Segedunum in Wallsend, a museum about Roman Britain next to Hadrian's Wall.
Also in the list are museums in Paris, Bonn, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Vienna, St Petersburg, Boston and Philadelphia.
The other three expert judges were Peter Jenkinson, director of the New Art Gallery in Walsall, Barbara Woroncow, chief executive of the Yorkshire Museums Council and Loyd Grossman, chairman of the Campaign for Museums.
