The leading 72 players in Yorkshire will descend on Fulford Golf Club tomorrow for the Yorkshire amateur strokeplay championship to be played over 36 holes.
Hull's Richard Finch will be bidding to add the strokeplay crown to his Yorkshire matchplay title, which he won at Alwoodley GC last month.
The local contingent will be spearheaded by Fulford's upcoming quartet of James Mason, Neil Smith, Matthew Kelly and Steve Dunn.
Meanwhile Fulford GC were beaten 3-1 at Chorley in the seventh round of the Mail on Sunday Golf Club Classic, two of the matches being decided on the last green.
Chorley have twice been to the international finals of this event, winning in 1995, and two members of that team played against Fulford while the other two were Lancashire county players.
Fulford's Kevin Miller had an outstanding four and three victory, being out in 34 and then starting back with eagle, birdie, birdie. The standard of play in this match was highlighted by the fact that Bill Bromilow, Miller's opponent was two under par when he lost.
Scores (Fulford names first): Paul Foulger (5) lost to Steve Ainscough (scr) 3 and 2, Chris Dale (5) lost to David Holden (2) 2 down, Kevin Miller (2) bt Bill Bromilow (1) 4 and 3, Steve Dunn (2) lost to Richard Kilshaw (1) 1 down.
