TADCASTER have snatched the IT Sports York Mixed Tennis League division two title by one point from Fulford after beating Rowntree Park 66-42 in their final match.

In-form husband and wife duo Ian and Debbie Young led their side to the points.

They won 26 games, just ahead of newcomer John Rutherford and Lorraine Pearey with Richard Hayes and Jane Firn providing great support.

Sutton on Derwent are the second side to be relegated after defeats against Sherburn 63-45 and Poppleton 58-50. They will go down with Castlegarth, 60-48 losers against Poppleton whose John Anderson and Hilary Spencer were unbeaten.

York II will be relegated with Wigginton from division one. They lost their rain-affected match 73-32 and after the final calculations for conceded fixtures were made discovered they lost their top flight status.

Dunnington II have finished as champions of division three and maintained their unbeaten record by defeating Civil Service 62-46. Service are also promoted. Judy McHenry and Kevin Todd finished off their year in fine style winning 31 games.

Dunnington III will, however, be relegated as Civil Service lost their re-arranged match with Riccall 58-50. That victory kept Riccall one point ahead of Dunnington at the bottom.

Fulford have won the division seven title with a 78-30 victory against Rufforth with Janet Hare and Terry Haw taking the honours with 27 games just ahead of Madeline Hatfield and Mark Cook. Third pair Eileen Lavender and Pete Rose were also unbeaten.

Civil Service have secured promotion from division eight with their 78-30 win at Appleton Roebuck, who are relegated. Civil Service's top scorers were Brenda Sorby and Jimmy Carter with 30 games, while Zoe Manton and Steve Gagen clocked up 24 games as did Barbara Leopard and Charlie Dixon.

The title looks to be going to Sutton-on-Derwent who crushed under-strength Riccall 88-20. Cawood need to win both their last matches to avoid the drop.

Wilberfoss will join Bubwith next season as the second promoted team from division nine after Wigginton lost 59-49 against a strong Selby side.

Selby finished off their fixtures with a comprehensive 86-22 win at Civil Service with the week's highest scorers, Chris and Kirsty Goodwin, winning 34 games just ahead of Jean White and Rob Jackson who won 28 games.

The strangest scorecard of the week came from the match between Sutton on Derwent and Nestl with Sutton winning 55-53. The scoreline would suggest a close match, however, Nestl's Clive Christian and Kerry Rafton won 32 games, including two 12-0's, but still ended up on the losing side.
