York Academy gained revenge over Gateshead for a narrow defeat earlier in the season with a comprehensive 46-18 victory.
An even first period saw both sides taking their chances, with full-back Kyle Wood twice giving York the lead, on 17 and 31 minutes, only for Gateshead to twice reply, on 22 minutes following a series of penalties and again to take the lead on 34 minutes.
With seconds of the half remaining centre Marc Dawson found a gap to score with Paul Flynn converting to give York a half-time 14-12 lead.York emerged for the second half in much more determined mood and Nick Caldwell was quickly on the scoresheet. Good support work brought York's next score, as a break from scrum-half Ritchie Hunter was carried on by prop Nick Burgess who found Flynn in support to score a try he converted himself.
Gateshead briefly rallied to score a converted try after 54 minutes but the one-way traffic resumed as Caldwell got his second try followed two minutes later by a Hunter try before winger Ben Jones bagged a brace in the last ten minutes. Flynn added three conversions.
