ALL did not go well for the host club in the opening games of Heworth FC's Euroglaze Southwood Cup competition.
Heworth 'B' crashed 4-1 to LNERB in the opening group 'A' game. Two goals from Williams and an own goal put the visitors in command at half-time. Slater headed home for Heworth before Dean added a fourth goal.
In the other group 'A' clash Huby hammered Moor Lane 6-2, Metcalf hitting a hat-trick to add to goals from McGuinness (2) and Robinson. Scott and Jones replied for Moor.
Heworth 'A' at least managed a point in a goal-less game against Fulford United. There was no such paucity in the other duel, a seven-goal thriller which Haxby and Wigginton won by the odd goal against Heslington. Taylor (2), Kidd and Deaton were the Haxby marksmen, Thornton (2) and Clarke on target for Heslington.
The next games: tomorrow - group 'A': Huby United v Heworth 'B', Moor Lane v LNERB; Thursday - group 'B': Fulford United v Heslington, Heworth 'A' v Haxby and Wigginton. All games kick-off 6.45pm at Hopgrove sports complex.
