YORK Acorn ARL Club are to stage a world record attempt at their Thanet Road ground - for the furthest free-fall by a lion.
The feat will be attempted on Bank Holiday Monday and all in aid of a worthy cause.
Furthermore, it will not be any old lion but rather York City's mascot, Yorkie, who will be making the giant leap for leonine-kind in order to help raise funds for Acorn's proposed £1million ground redevelopment.
Yorkie will be among up to 50 people doing a sponsored bungee jump on Monday, August 27, between noon and 4pm.
Also at the event will be Leeds Rhinos mascot Ronnie the Rhino and possibly York Wasps counterpart Wobby the Wasp, though it is not thought they will be making the jump.
The cost of each jump is £30 and as there are still a few places available anyone willing to take the plunge should contact club treasurer Linda Hill tel 01904 330351.
