NATIONAL 25 mile champion racing cyclist Stuart Dangerfield won the fifth national round of the Road Time Trials Council Rudy Project Time Trial Series which was held on the Milby circuit north east of Boroughbridge
The Rudy Project series is a nationwide season-long competition which aims to promote the use of non-main road circuits for time trial events as opposed to racing up and down busy dual carriageways.
The nine-mile Milby circuit's technical nature tests more of a rider's abilities than simply pure speed in almost a straight line.
Dangerfield (Camel Valley) powered his way stylishly and impressively through the twisty lanes to complete the three lap 27 mile total distance of the Milby event in a time of 56min 40sec and increase his overall lead in the series.
Manxman Rob Holden (Ellan Vannin) was surprisingly runner-up, 58-19. Matthew Bottrill was third, in 58-40.
Second seeded rider James Gilfillan was absent because of injury. South Cave's Adam Hardy (Pete Read) pipped York's Paul Watson (Loughborough Students) for ninth place with 1hr 00min 57sec to Watson's 1-00-59.
Rob Osman (Clifton CC) acquitted himself well with a time of 1-03-54, while his club colleague Dave Belcher timed 1-13 -17. York's Colin Hawxby (Top Banana) timed 1-05-42.
Nigel Goscinski, riding for the event's promoting club Knaresborough RT, timed 1-07-21. His club colleague Jim Lee completed two laps and failed to finish.
The womens race over two laps (18 miles) was won by Sally Ashbridge, from Aberdeen, in 42min 41sec. Second was Liz Milne in 44-45, and third was Theresa Coltman in 45-09. Claire Gilmartin (Clifton CC) was sixth in 54-51.
The Junior race, over 18 miles, was won by Carl Dyson in 41-00. Second was Peter Moon in 41-36, and third was Alex Isherwood in 44-50.
The next regional round in the series is Saturday, August 25, and will be promoted by Bridlington CC on the tough Wold-Newton circuit. The event headquarters will be at Grindale, north west of Bridlington, and the event starts at 2pm.
Rob Osman won Clifton CC's latest Sporting Course SPOCO time trial over a tough 13.5 mile circuit taking in Bulmer Bank, Castle Howard and Coneysthorpe. Osman clocked 35min 19sec, closely followed by Paul Musgrave in 35-56.
Other times: Ian Toyn 38-02, George Young 39-19, Carl Aldous 43-28, Chris Carter 43-29, Claire Gilmartin 44-50, Cath Tatlock 46-57.
- Clifton's Cycling Club's general meeting will be held at the Folk Hall, New Earswick, on Monday, August 20, starting at 8pm. All members are welcome to attend.
