IN the finals of the York Veterans Bowls League Cup competitions at West Park, Bootham Cons beat Holgate 18-16 in the premier competition - the Maddison Cup - while Acomb 'B' beat Museum 21-9 in the Coronation Cup.

Bootham Cons surged ahead to lead 8-1 but Holgate fought back to 10-10 after 11 ends. Bootham scored four and three at consecutive ends to lead 18-12 after 15 ends but despite winning the last three ends Holgate could only score four shots. The winning rink was Edgar Dawson, Tom Winterburn, Les Jackson and Jim Hackett.

After exchanging shots Acomb 'B' scored five on the eighth end to lead 11-4. Museum trimmed the deficit to 12-9 with five ends to play but Acomb won all the rest. The winning rink was Arthur Harris, Colin Baldwin, Alan Johnston and Bob Bainbridge. The trophies were presented by Roy Ramsell.

In the quarter finals of the League Championship play-offs at Railway Institute, Scarcroft led 15-1 after only five ends and Huntington WMC were unable to recover eventually losing 26-16.

In a hard fought game between Bert Keech 'B' and Dunnington 'C' the scores were always close. There were never more than four shots between them before Bert Keech ran out 13-11 winners.

Holgate led Barbican 12-1 after five ends and were always well in control winning 26-16.

West Park 'B' led Copmanthorpe 'C' 10-4 14-8 and 15-10, but at the penultimate end Copmanthorpe scored four shots to go into the last end with a two shots lead.

Despite West Park holding three shots with only the skips to play, Copmanthorpe managed to reduce the count to one to win the game 19-18.
