Kevin Darley, who rode three winners yesterday - one at Beverley in the afternoon and two at Hamilton last night - duly notched his turf century for the fourth consecutive season and his seventh time in eight years.

Sheriff Hutton's champion jockey, making a gallant bid to retain his title despite strong opposition from Kieren Fallon, heads south to Newbury tomorrow with excellent prospects.

Darley has several fancied mounts, including Scottish River in one of the televised feature events on BBC2, the £18,000 Washington Singer Stakes.

Trained by Mark Johnston, Scottish River got off the mark at Thirsk in a maiden race and stepped up considerably on that performance when chasing home the high-class Meshaheer in the July Stakes at Newmarket.

A progressive youngster, Scottish River can add to Darley's tally tomorrow.

The promising Princess Miletrian, trained by Mick Channon, can also give Darley a good ride in the pub-enterprises.co.uk Maiden Fillies' Stakes, following her encouraging display to finish third on her debut.

The Mike Watts 40th Birthday Claiming Stakes offers Darley another chance to shine on Sabo Rose.

William Haggas's filly has proved tough and consistent of late and she promises to make her presence firmly felt in this one-mile event.

Swiss Lake, held in high esteem by trainer Gerard Butler, who provided Darley with both his Hamilton winners last night, goes for the St Hugh's Stakes following her disappointing display in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot last month.

Back over five furlongs, she is expected to give Darley a good ride, but the Nap vote here goes to northern raider Lady Pekan.

Trained at Bawtry by John Balding and the mount of his son-in-law Jason Edmunds, a combination not normally seen bidding for Listed races such as this, Lady Pekan has proved herself a very able sprinter this season.

Winner of two of her last three starts, at Kempton and Sandown, Lady Pekan has more than earned her place in this line-up and is fancied to run a big race.

The £15,000 'Run Your Own Pub with Scottish & Newcastle Breweries' Rated Handicap is the third and final race on television and armchair punters should not underestimate Norton raider Torrid Kentavr.

Trained by Brian Ellison, the four-year-old will relish this step up to one mile and three furlongs, having found a two-furlong shorter distance against him when finishing a creditable fourth to Kuster at Goodwood last time.

The British Heart Foundation, celebrating its 40th anniversary, will be a beneficiary from Newcastle's meeting, where the promising Jewel of India (2.30) and the consistent Baby Barry (4.30) are worth attention.

The evening action at Catterick, in aid of the Durham Cheshire Home, kicks-off with the I.R.M. Amateur Riders' Handicap, in which Mary Reveley has excellent prospects with House Of Dreams, a previous course and distance winner.

The tough and talented Tucker Fence (6.50) and the speedy Roseum (7.50) are also worth noting.
