YORK lead division five, but were run close by bottom club Copmanthorpe in a match which went down to the wire.

York lost both openers cheaply, Chris Houseman walking when gloving the ball to the wicketkeeper.

But the table-toppers were bailed out by the Boyle brothers, Matthew and 16-year-old Tom who saw them through to 103. Liam Elliker and Steve Barnes both took four wickets,.

York's total looked quite safe as Pervez Akhtar, who finished with 5 for 30, had Copmanthorpe reeling at 10 for 3.

Paul Newton, Neil Brook and Malcolm Beetham then led a revival and Copmanthorpe were well placed at 101 for 8.

Then 16-year-old Jamal Hussein returned to the attack and took two wickets in successive deliveries to clinch York's win.

Wistow ran up 198 for 3 at Wheldrake thanks to Pete Elliott (75) and Pete Lawler (56no). Kevin Dent was the only Wheldrake batsman in double figures with 31 as Wistow won by 137 runs to keep right on York's heels.

Tadcaster Magnet also plundered maximum points from their visit to Pocklington to keep the pressure on the leading duo.

The visitors reached 198 for 4, all four wickets falling to Peter Eastwood. Barry Emmott (55no) and Colin Swann (36no) put on 64 in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership.

Pock then collapsed to 79 all out against tight and accurate bowling from James Stuart, Paul Sherwood and James Key.

The entire Sunday programme, including the Scothern Cup Final and Prendergast Memorial Trophy semi-finals, were washed out.

All the games are rescheduled for this Sunday.

The Scothern Cup Final between Escrick Park and Burton Salmon will be played at Woodhouse Grange.
