I WONDER if the vicar who banned Jerusalem and I Vow To Thee My Country from a wedding service was an old Canon Lee School lad?
Back in the 1950's I was often asked to play the hymns in school assembly if ever the music teacher went absent without leave.
I forget the number of times I used to pick out Jerusalem and I Vow To Thee My Country as the morning hymns on those occasions.
But I can imagine some of the school kids would have to retreat into a darkened room if ever they heard the tunes again.
Such happy school days.
