REMPLOY York has won a contract to produce 2,000 flags a week for the UK arm of Europe's largest flag manufacturer.

The flags, destined for companies throughout the UK and the Middle East, are printed by Northern Flags Ltd, and passed to Remploy for cutting, sewing and finishing.

The firm's Layerthorpe-based factory was awarded the contract after demonstrating its ability to work to stringent standards of quality and efficiency. The firm is the UK's largest employer of disabled people.

Traditionally producing a range of headrests and armrests for the new car sector, its ISO 9000 accreditation played a major part in securing the interest of Northern Flags.

Manager Carl Ventress said: "This project is an excellent opportunity for Remploy York to show our adaptability and skills to businesses in our region.

"I am delighted that we have risen to the challenge of this contract, and that York-made flags will be flying across the world."

Sandy Goodall, managing director of Northern Flags, Leeds, added: "We are delighted with Remploy's expertise, and are currently looking to increase our business with the company."
