FORGET Ibiza - there's enough fun to be had here in York.

Summer Daze And Oasis, City of York Council's summer activities programme for children and young people, is once again proving very popular.

There are still loads of opportunities to find something for youngsters to do for the day that they will enjoy.

There is a wide range of activities available, from rugby and rafting to music and bridge courses.

This Monday and Tuesday there will be free York Wasps Rugby League coaching sessions at the Acorn ARL sports and social club for 12 to 14-year-olds.

There will also be courses in the sport on August 20 and 21 at the New Earswick sports club for eight to 11-year-olds and 12 to 16-year-olds, though this costs £6. If they are more the arty type, get them into music theatre from August 20, at the National Centre for Early Music, off Walmgate; that is for 11 to 15-year-olds at £20 each. And members of the York Bridge Club are running "taster sessions" for free. Call Yortime for the venue.

Outdoor types will love a day's rafting course, meeting at the Barbican - and it only costs £5 (11 to 18-year-olds only). On Tuesday there is a pool party at Waterworld. Admission is free.

Anyone seeking more information on these events should call into the Yortime Resource Centre at 20 Back Swinegate, York, or telephone 01904 553440.

York Leisure Office information assistant Tamsyn Quornby said: "As well as

the Summer Daze and Oasis activities we have lots of ideas and suggestions for children's activities at the Yortime Resource Centre, and quite a few parents have called in for advice and gone away with stacks of ideas for the

summer holiday."
