THE author of the letter 'Call a halt to this traffic madness' (August 7) is clearly unaware of the safety measures City of York Council is already considering to meet public concern over traffic along Beckfield Lane.
In our Local Transport Plan under the list of safety schemes for 2001/02 there is a funding allocation for reducing accidents on Beckfield Lane.We have identified that the main problems are near the two areas of shops (one near Ostman Road and the other one near Runswick Avenue) and will be seeking to reduce speeds and assist pedestrians in crossing the road.
We are still looking at the sites with a view to coming up with some practical proposals to put forward for public consultation.
The consultation will probably happen in the autumn.
