THE funeral of a student who suffered fatal injuries on Lightwater Valley's new white-knuckle ride two weeks ago will take place next week.
Gemma Louise Savage, 20, from Wath-on-Dearne, near Rother-ham, suffered head and spinal injuries on the theme park's Treetop Twister, when two cars on the ride ran into each other on Wednesday, June 20.
Her funeral is set to take place at Swinton's St Margaret's Church, near Rotherham, on Tuesday at 12.45pm.
Gemma, a student at Durham University and living on the Stockton campus, was pronounced dead in Leeds General Infirmary, 24 hours after the incident.
The ride, which has been described as a "hair-raising cross between a rollercoaster and a waltzer," was only opened in May by girl band The Honeyz.
The ride was immediately closed after the accident, and the Health and Safety Executive served a prohibition notice preventing it from re-opening until the executive gives permission.
