YORK youngster Craig Erion showed plenty of Dutch courage to land the silver medal in a major international judo competition in Crystal Palace.
Fourteen-year-old Craig, from Foxwood, was just beaten on points by a Dutch international in the final of the under-55kg in the Kent International.
Competing against fighters from across Europe, Craig, a member of the York Railway Institute club, defeated three opponents on his way to the final.
"I was really happy with it - I didn't expect to win anything," said Lowfield School pupil Craig, who was entered for the competition by his father.
The silver medal is the latest in a long line of awards won by green belt Craig since he took up the sport at the age of 11.
He has twice won gold at the Yorkshire and Humberside Championships and took bronze in the prestigious Lakeland Open held in Kendal, Cumbria.
He will represent Yorkshire and Humberside in the war of the Roses against Lancashire at Hillsborough, Sheffield on Sunday, July 22.
