SIMON Dyson picked up around £6,500 after holding his own in an impressive Murphy's Irish Open field at Fota island.
The Malton and Norton player finished in joint 35th place, some 14 shots adrift of winner Colin Montgomerie, but his four under par 280 was enough to secure a reasonable pay-day.
Dyson saved his best for last as he ended with two rounds of 69 to follow up a 70 and 72.
Montogmerie was in superb form with rounds of 63, 69, 68 and 66 for an 18 under par total of 266 to become only the fourth player after Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Bernhard Langer to capture three Irish Open titles.
The Scot finished five shots clear of nearest challengers Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and Niclas Fasth to land his 25th European Tour title. The victory lifts him from 13th to sixth in the European Ryder Cup points table.
