FANTASTIC weather was matched by an excellent sporting event at Harrogate Granby High School, where the North Yorkshire Youth Games were held.
More than 850 boys and girls from across the county took part in 16 competitions covering 11 different sporting disciplines.
York were well represented, competing with six other area squads in all the sports including girls' rugby.
That team (pictured left) was made up of Oaklands School pupils, and it was only the second time York had sent such a team to the tournament.
It was set up through a partnership between York Leisure Office, York RFU and Oaklands School, which is a result of the York Sport and Active Leisure Strategy, launched by City of York Council in April.
The sports day itself, hosted by Harrogate Borough Council, was masterminded by Helen Bowles, who was seconded six months ago. It went on all day and made for a major sporting event.
