Goalkeeper Nick Culkin's decision to stay at Old Trafford is good news for the Minstermen.
It is understood City have a sell-on agreement with United, who signed Culkin from Bootham Crescent in 1995 for an initial £100,000.
But City will also receive monies linked to Culkin's first team appearances at Old Trafford - appearances which in-turn would see his value inevitably soar.
City have already banked an extra estimated £50,000 following last summer's lucrative friendly at Bootham Crescent between City and United.
That game was a result of a clause inserted into deal that took Culkin to Old Trafford with United agreeing to play City once the 'keeper made his first team debut for the Red Devils.
"The more money York City make out of me the better," said Culkin,
"I would like to do as much for the club as possible. They were very good to me and I'm glad to repay them in whatever way possible."
