Burythorpe gained revenge for their defeat in the cup the previous weekend by trouncing York to regain the lead in division one of Horwath Pulleyn Heselton York Vale League.

Batting first, they looked in trouble at 62 for five but Steve Towse hit a half-century and Mark Fair-weather and Geoff Mort piled on the runs to take maximum batting points.

Fairweather and Andrew Milner took charge in the reply, the former returning six for 55 and the latter three for 19 from 12 overs.

Simon Bulmer was top scorer with ten for the visitors, who just managed to get a batting point.

Burn took full points from their defeat of Hemingbrough. Batting first they ran up the day's best score of 259 for three as David Prime smashed 75 not out with seven fours and five sixes.

'Brough saw only three batsmen reach double figures in reply. Tom Clark hit 51 but it was not until the fall of the seventh wicket, at 68, that the innings came alive, Malcolm Walker plundering 73 with five sixes to take the score to 162.

Ovington are fourth in the table after beating Stamford Bridge by nine wickets, John Sharples shining. Bridge, with five batsmen getting ducks, were all out for 88, while Sharples smashed 71 not out in reply with just six runs coming at the other end.

Heworth were restricted to 145 for six at Norwich Union. John Bonarius hit a half-century, while Simon Morgan took three for 26.

Union's openers equalled the Heworth total with Brian Garnett striking 20 fours in his 98 before being stumped chasing a wide. Morgan made 38 not out as the hosts won by nine wickets.

Bishopthorpe's bowlers kept Stockton and Hopgrove in check, with Derek Gardiner conceding just 38 runs from 14 overs while Mike Brown took three for 60.

It was all in vain, though, as Jason Chinion joined David Kerrison to add 96 runs in the last 20 overs enabling Stockton to reach 127 for four, while a devastating 12-over spell of seven for 19 from James Wigby saw the Bishops fall for 77.

Division two leaders Thorpe Willoughby received a walkover against Thixendale, who have been hit by the foot and mouth epidemic.

British Sugar moved into second place and consigned Kelfield to bottom place with a 49-run win. Clive Heaton (67) skipper Wayne Bellerby (27) helped take Sugar too 148. Neil Atkinson and Richardson added 70 for the second wicket but Gary Iqbal took six for 21 as Kelfield collapsed to 89.

York Post Office never recovered from a poor start against Drax, only reaching 108 for seven due to James Ledgeway and Glynn Botte-rill adding 51 for the fourth wicket.

Drax started well with an opening stand of 43, wobbled in the middle but were seen home by Brian Knight to go third.

The young Clifton attack saw Fulfordgate out for 99. Will Rodd-ham, conceding 11 from nine overs, set the tone, while 14-year-old Scott Greaves (3-19) enjoyed his debut.

Steve Bygott (2-23) saw Clifton make heavy weather of scoring in reply. They were well placed at 67 for five when Pete Fairburn's spin brought about their demise for 79.

Wheldrake's Pete Kilkenny and Andy Fairburn had Westow on the back foot at 25 for four before Fairburn retired with a knee injury.

Derek Midgley and Dave Cover-dale put on 67 before Mike Davis got among the wickets, the last six falling for 14. Davis then hit an unbeaten 66 as Wheldrake won by nine wickets.
