A spectator was hit by a stone and a club member allegedly assaulted when youths forced the stoppage of the division four encounter between Ovington and Selby at Knavesmire.
The police were called to restore order and the match was held up for 20 minutes before Ovington went on to complete a thrilling victory.
Shane Hargrave, secretary of the York Vale League, explained: "Teenagers, who had allegedly been drinking, started throwing stones from a garden.
"One hit a lady spectator so one of the club members decided enough was enough and attempted to make a citizen's arrest. He got embroiled with two of the four teenagers and was assaulted but didn't press charges."
Earlier Ovington had made 149 for eight, Geoff Romans taking three for 25.
Richard Firth hit a rapid 44 for Selby but as the score mounted the wickets fell. Paul Mizon (4-52) and Carl Welsh (3-18) helped Ovington hold their nerve to win by two runs.
York University Staff returned to winning ways by beating Heworth as Ashley Pike (70), Mark Dusheiko (81) and Jim Watt (71no) took them to their season's best score of 255 for two. Ken Johnson hit 67 for Heworth but they were all out for 103, Pete O'Brien (4-14) helping the Staff move into second place.
Tom Green (29) and Andrew Charlton (33) gave Tollerton a sound start against Acomb before Adrian Harris (7-31) restricted the hosts to 135.
Tony Raper (2-16) and Pete Clarke (4-18) kept Acomb to 78 for seven in their 40 overs, to leave Tollerton clear at the top.
Burton Salmon won by 26 runs at Drax after rattling up 207 for seven, Dave Olde top scoring with 78.
Danny Hennesey hit 45 but Burton's attack was always on top and the overs ran out.
Bishopthorpe's Andy Spence removed both Huntington openers cheaply and they ended on 123 for nine. Danny Williams added 66 not out to his two for 33 as Bishopthorpe gained their first win since the opening day.
