Members of the 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers, based in Ripon, are helping assemble a set for a spectacular airborne re-enactment at the Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington.
The huge set will include a bridge, a river and embattlements for the display, on Sunday, July 8.
Taking part will be a replica WACO Hadrian Glider that has previously featured in the hit film 'Saving Private Ryan'.
The display will feature members of the Victory in Europe Re-enactment Association and the Normandy Arnhem Association, amongst others, and the show will be entitled "The Battle of Pont-du-Semlyen", named after Rachel Semlyen, the founder of the museum.
The display will form the grand finale to the day, and will include a mock battle in which the Allied Airborne Forces will take on German troops and tanks, destroying the communication and radar bunkers, and going on to capture the bridge.
The show will also feature a full display by the Red Arrows, the Red Devils parachute display team, and a Battle of Britain memorial flight, featuring Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakota aircraft.
There will also be plenty of vehicles on display on the ground, with the Central Band of the Parachute Regiment, a birds of prey exhibition, and regimental Shetland pony mascots adding additional fun to the day.
The event takes place from 9am. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £4 for concessions.
