THE answer to your rhetorical question, 'How many more must die here?' (June 23) is that more will unless immediate action is taken to close all the gaps along this stretch of the A64.
The previous suggestion of a 50mph limit has been destroyed by the knowledge that one of the young men killed was hit by a vehicle travelling at 53mph.
The A64 is the major trunk route between the West Riding, York and the East Coast; in effect it is a neo-motorway. Yet there are still those with the mindset that continues to allow the crossing of its busy traffic flow by pedestrians and vehicles.
Responsibility for addressing these issues lies firmly with the Highways Agency. It is for them to take proper remedial action until a flyover or footbridge can be completed.
