Energetic groups from across York, including one from the Red Shoes Dance, joined in a day-long extravaganza of dance in St Sampson's Square.
The event rounded off a lively Dance Week York and also marked the start of York Learning Festival.
Dancing groups taking part included the Hip-Hop Club, the Happy Tappers, who dance to cabaret music, and National Dance Festival prize-winners from the Angela Kirkham Dance School.
School children who attend the weekly Performing Arts Centre at York College also went to St Sampson's Square for the morning to demonstrate their routines as part of the event.
The event also formed part of the first day of York Learning Festival, which runs throughout this week. Other open-air events to look out for will include the chance to find out how to give your bike an MOT, laid on by the Recyclist Project, and a display by the English Table Tennis Association, both in Parliament Street on Friday.
The last day of the festival, next Saturday, will take in the Community Fun Day at York College, which will raise money for St Leonard's Hospice.
