THOUSANDS of pedal power devotees were arriving in York today for the biggest annual gathering of cyclists in the UK.
The famous Cyclists' Touring Club York Rally offers cyclists the chance to meet old friends, pick up the latest in biking equipment and take part in a range of activities.
These include the Ron Kitching challenge - named after one of the best endurance cyclists of the 1930s - in which cyclists can tackle either a 100, 140 or 175-kilometre ride through the North Yorkshire countryside.
Mark Waters, rally co-ordinator, said: "The two-day rally will offer something for almost every type of cyclist, plus a selection of social events to make it really memorable."
Thousands of the cyclists were due to camp on the Knavesmire, with space still available for anyone wanting to attend at short notice.
