Several York riders contested the Halifax Road Clubs road race, with VC York's in-form Ian Holmes taking a fine fourth.

Run over 14 laps of a four-and-a-half-mile Pennine circuit near Brighouse, the event was fast and furious from the off.

After repeated sort-outs, a group of five went clear with three laps to go. This break included Holmes, who secured fourth at the final sprint.

The main bunch followed barely 35 seconds down and included the rest of the VC York team and Clifton CC's lone representative, Paul Musgrave.

The race was won by Mark Wordsworth of the Dinnington Road Club.

Clifton CC's quartet of veterans in the latest event of the Thursday Time Trial League were led home by Askham Bryan's Ian Kent in a creditable time of 24min 27sec over the ten-mile Tadcaster/Copmanthorpe course.

Jerry Noble timed 25-20, Les Osguthorpe improved to 26-52, as did Mickie Hornby to 27-14.

Bob Jackson RT's Sean McCarthy was again overall winner in 21-40 followed by Seacroft second-claimer Chris Peate in 22-03.
