Hundreds of people from all over York and adjoining areas are expected to converge on York Minster on Sunday (7pm) for the launch of a series of meetings taking place next year under the banner of Just 10 In York.
The speaker at Sunday's launch will be J John, an internationally-respected evangelist with a passionate and humorous style who is currently visiting many cathedral cities up and down the country to speak about the Ten Commandments.
Sunday's congregation, drawn from all denominations, will hear J John talk about some of the amazing and exciting things that have been happening across the country as he has spoken about the Ten Commandments.
The plans for his mission to York on ten consecutive Thursday evenings in April, May and June next year will also be outlined. The primary focus of these meetings is to reach people who do not normally go to church.
Instead of taking the more familiar titles of the commandments - "Thou shalt not..." - J John will speak on "How To Tame Your Temper", How To Keep Peace With Your Parents", and "How To Stop Driving Yourself Crazy" while dealing with the Commandments in reverse order.
Douglas Greenfield, chairman of York One Voice, the ecumenical group which is sponsoring and planning next year's meetings, said: "This will be one of the largest united outreach ventures of the Christian Gospel seen in York for many years. It presents an opportunity for Christian folk to unite together in an exciting proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ."
