Fulford primary school St Oswald's are heading to Harrogate this weekend to represent York at tag rugby in the 2001 North Yorkshire Youth Games.
They beat off the challenge of 20 rival schools to win the qualifying competition in the mixed under-11s category.
St Oswald's beat Westfield in the final of the first-ever York Schools Tag Rugby Tournament, held at Huntington School, to book their place at the Games, to be held on Sunday at Harrogate Granby High School.
This year's Games, supported by HSBC, are set to be tbe biggest yet. They will feature 900 youngsters representing seven districts across North Yorkshire.
The children will take part in 16 competitions across 11 sports - athletics, boys' and girls' basketball, kwik cricket, disability sports, boys' moderate learning disabilities football, girls' under-14s and under-11s football, boys' and girls' hockey, netball, orienteering, girls' under-14 and mixed under-11s tag rugby, table tennis and tennis.
