York conceded 90-plus points for the third time this season as Featherstone Rovers became the latest beneficiaries of the Wasps' demise.
The 92-2 victory smashed Featherstone's record win, eclipsing the 86-18 success over Keighley in 1989.
Scrum-half Jamie Rooney should have written himself into the record books too. He was chasing the record number of goals in a match, 13 set by Mark Knapper in the same game, but fell one short as he twice hit the post and missed two relatively easy chances.
Not that Rovers were complaining. They had too much class, pace and power for the inexperienced Wasps who included two debutants in the shape of on-loan Featherstone prop Carl Sayer and former Dewsbury hooker Steve Thickbroom.
They were also forced to name kit man Steve 'Bomber' Harris on the bench for the fourth time this season but he was not called into action.
Instead, prop Andy Precious, starting his first game since the opening day of the season, did supremely well to complete the full 80 minutes while Darren Crake was a tower of strength in the second row.
But even their efforts did nothing to lift the Wasps who rarely threatened the Featherstone line.
Indeed, York would have been nilled for the third successive game had Gareth Oulton not gone for goal when they were awarded a 16th minute penalty at 18-0 down.
Coach Lee Crooks, sitting in front of the press box, voiced his displeasure at the mystifying decision but at least it broke their duck.
The rest of the game was one-way traffic with stand-off Andy Bastow and second rower Neil Lowe in unstoppable form as Rovers ran in 17 tries and had two others disallowed.
It took them just three minutes to score, Bastow's pass catching centre Matt Mulholland out of position and leaving a gaping hole for full-back Simon Jackson to race in from 30 metres.
Bastow was again the provider five minutes later when his short pass put second row man Danny Evans over the line from close range.
Next it was Bastow's turn to score, spinning out of an attempted tackle by Shane Cochran to crash over next to the posts.
With Rooney converting all three tries, Rovers were 18-0 up after just ten minutes before Oulton slotted over the penalty from in front of the sticks.
Former York loose forward Paul Darley and Lowe were beginning to find gaps out wide and the pair combined to send centre Gavin Swinson over in the corner for the next score after 18 minutes. The pair again linked up to give Swinson an almost carbon copy try three minutes later.
It was all too easy for Rovers and they should have been in again when Stokes followed up Rooney's kick and sprinted clear only to drop the ball while trying to ground it.
It was only a brief respite for the Wasps as Stokes made amends two minutes later.
Bastow showed a terrific turn of pace to dart straight through a gap 40 metres out, drew full-back Mike Hall and had Stokes in support to finish off.
Further tries followed by Chapman, Gavin Morgan, after his grubber kick had bounced out of the grasp of Hall, and a fine 60 metre effort from Jackson to make the half-time score 52-2.
At that stage York's record defeat - 98-0 at the hands of Rochdale earlier this year - looked under threat but thankfully Featherstone fell just short.
They started the second half where they left off the first, centre Chris Spurr bursting between Mulholland and Phil Musgrave to touch down.
Stokes then bagged his second before Lowe scored the try of the game, brilliantly instigated by Rooney.
The scrum-half regathered his own perfectly weighted chip and squeezed a superb pass out of the tackle to Lowe who nipped inside to score under the posts.
It was a moment of outstanding skill by Rooney which highlighted the gulf in class between the sides.
Spurr and Evans both went on to score their second touch downs, Stokes completed his hat-trick and Steve Dooler and Matt Bramald also got in on the act.
The only disappointment for Rovers was Rochdale's surprise victory over Leigh which could rob them of fourth place.
Victory for Rochdale over Barrow on Wednesday would displace Featherstone in the top four while York have the luxury of a relaxing final two games - against champions Leigh and third-placed Widnes!
