The Hall father and son duo took York from an almost impossible position to a last-ball win in their Horwath Pulleyn Heselton Cup clash against Burythorpe on Saturday.

The two sides, locked together at the top of the first division, faced each other in the second round on a day many other games fell victim to rain.

They dished up a thriller, the winning runs coming with father Tony Hall aided by son Simon in a decisive last-wicket stand, while Burn eased into the semi-finals beating Bishopthorpe by five wickets.

Many of the wickets were wet and slow and outfields sluggish, but they didn't cause any undue problems for Escrick Park, who reached the semi-finals of the Scothern Construction Cup, beating Melbourne by eight wickets. Burton Salmon beat Wistow by nine wickets.

There was no joy for Kelfield in the Guy Mitchell Cup as visitors Westow triumphed by 13 runs, while Fulfordgate went down by nine wickets at home to Ovington.
